tw: this page lists examples of potential topics that could be triggering.

  • What is a Trigger or Content Warning?

A trigger or content warning is a short line of text that gives the user an overview of any sensitive topics that might be discussed in the text that follows. It exists to give the reader an option on whether or not to engage.

  • Why should I add a warning?

These warnings help a user know if they should continue to read and interact with your post. If a user has a personal experience with the potentially triggering content, they deserve the option to know, and then to decide if they want to keep reading.

  • What sort of things should I add to a trigger warning?

Your trigger warning should include a description of potentially triggering content and a list of topics.

Potential topics could include (but aren’t limited to) mentions of suicide completion or attempt, assault, violence, disordered eating, generational trauma, abuse, etc..

When in doubt, it’s always better to provide a warning.
